Good morning! The sun is shining bright here in Seattle and the air is crisp and cool. I've got my rooibos tea steeping on my desk as I blow my nose for the umpteenth time this week. Ugg, don't you just hate colds?! Although I'm fighting this annoying virus, I just had to get up and blog about my most recent fashion shoot! As most of you know, i'm gearing down from shooting weddings to shooting more lifestyle and editorial work. I just get super excited when I'm hired to shoot fashion and feel like this is where I thrive. That's a question I'm always asking my friends who are still searching for their passion in life…."Where do you thrive most?" At the beginning of this year, I made a vow to myself while stretching in hot yoga (and sweating my butt off!) Here's the promise to myself : Go for what you want, even if you're terrified, until you get there. The fear will subside along the way.
I knew a few weeks ago I was in the mood to challenge myself with studio lighting. For those of you who know me, or raised me, you'll know I'm quite the techi. I love technology and figuring out how wires are crossed and where they get crossed. (I'm a therapist too :) I've never set up lighting all by myself and have been EXTREMELY intimidated of setting it up! I woke up early to watch about 2 hours of you tube videos on studio lighting only to feel just as confused as when I first sat down. I called my buddies down at Glazers Camera Rental and they saved my life that day! He gave me about a 7 minute pop-up lesson and on I went to set it up at my home studio.
I wanted to shoot a professional model so I asked my new friend, also most recent American Eagle model, Luiza Farber for whom I should shoot in Seattle. She mentioned I should work with a Russian woman named Ilona Danilova. So I reached out to her and 3 days later we had hair/make-up with Carissa Runberg and Wardrobe by Urban Outfitters stylist and vintage clothing collector, Rachael Voss and our lovely model, Ilona! It was one of the funnest shoots I've done! A great crew that I look forward to working with in the next few months!
This is Ilona Danilova. She started modeling around age 13. After graduating high school at just 16 years old, she started pursuing modeling with everything in her! She traveled all over the world, shooting for Teen Vogue, Kohls, L.A. and NYC fashion week! She is currently living just outside Seattle with her husband and super cute little boy (whom I've yet to meet). She spends her time being a good mom, doing yoga and continuing to model. You can follow her on Instagram for her latest shoots at @danilovailona.
